Since its inception in 1991, VCG's Corporate Board Placement Program has worked with corporations and professional firms in the strategic placement of executives on nonprofit boards where their expertise and judgement will be valuable. Clients include: American Express; Booz Allen Hamilton; Deloitte Consulting; Dorsey & Whitney; Duracell; Ernst & Young; McGraw-Hill Companies; Pfizer and the U.S. Trust Company of New York.

Assistance may include:
  • Nonprofit Board Seminar
--A 90 minute overview of the nonprofit environment today, the critical questions to be asked in considering a board position, as well as strategies for being an effective board member.
  • Executive Interview
--An in-depth interview with a VCG professional to gain an understanding of personal/professional interests, time and geographic availability, skills/specialized fields of knowledge and past/current volunteer activity.
  • Research/Placement Diplomacy
--VCG researches organizations whose mission, internal structure and board member standards are most appropriate.
--We then arrange introductions and assist in the diplomacy of the placement process.
--Our staff is available for consultation as the new board member assumes the responsibilities of trusteeship.

Executive Leadership Development through Service on Nonprofit Boards, a study by VCG and American Express' Competency Development & Assessment Group, found that serving on a nonprofit board develops competencies that can be used "back on the job" to forward one's professional development in a business setting.
