| Brooke served
as the Executive Director of the Volunteer Consulting Group
since its founding in 1969, building it from a program developed
in conjunction with the Harvard Business School Club of Greater
New York into a nationally prominent organization focused on
strengthening nonprofit boards of directors. Among many accomplishments,
she led the creation of www.boardnetUSA.org--dedicated to bringing
transparency and interactive access between nonprofit boards
needing leadership and individuals wishing to serve as trustees
across boundaries of age, ethnicity, geography and skill.
After graduating from Randolph-Macon Women's College,
attending Stanford Business School and receiving her MBA from
Harvard, Ms. Mahoney worked in management positions for Interpublic,
Inc. and Trans World Airlines (from which she was granted
a leave of absence to found VCG).
A Director of the Rauch Foundation, Brooke was also
a member of the International Women's Forum. In 1993,
she was chosen to be a Fellow at the Salzburg Institute. She
was a former Director of the Alliance for Nonprofit Management,
the American Center for International Leadership, the Better
Business Bureau of Metropolitan New York, the Brain Mapping
Center at UCLA, and Executive Women In Human Services. She
has served on the Executive Council of the Harvard Business
School, as a panelist with the National Endowment for the
Arts, as a member of the Economic Club of New York, been published
in the Harvard Business Review and was a Regional Finalist
for a White House Fellowship.
Brooke was the daughter of Jesse Waring Mahoney, M.D. and
Mary Watkins Reeves. She is survived by her husband Norman
Berman, her step-children Alisa Berman and Jonathan Berman,
step-grandchildren Rachel and Jennefer Berman and William
and Charles Slattery, her sister Lisa Reeves Mahoney M.D.,
her brothers Jesse Waring Mahoney, Jr. and Reeves Watkins
Mahoney, Esq. and her nephews Rex Whitt Mahoney and Luke Reeves
Mahoney.
