David Birdsell, who joined the Baruch faculty in 1986, is an
expert on visual and political communication. David has been
on the SPA faculty since the inception of the School in 1994.
In his many roles at SPA, David has served as executive director
for academic programs (1999-2005) with responsibility for graduate
and undergraduate curricula and faculty affairs. David has been
the school's acting dean since the summer of 2005.
David holds a PhD in public communications from the University
of Maryland and MA and BA degrees from the University of Virginia.
He lectures frequently on politics, nonprofit management,
and civic culture. Some of his recent work has focused on
leadership development and succession management in public
sector organizations.
The School of Public Affairs, a Flagship institution of the
CUNY system, specializes in teaching, research, and service
in the areas of municipal government, nonprofit administration,
policy analysis, health care policy, and educational administration.
